WAGS in France September 2014

Becoming a regular and classic trip to France by the TVAM WAGS team to Lamballe.  Staying at the Lion D'Or, a modest but clean and well run little hotel.  And drinking (usually heavily) at La Place Unique, a small bar down the hill from the hotel.  The French countryside and Franch roads always stun and the French people seem to enjoy seeing large numers of motorcycles coming rumbling through their villages. A great time is had by all.

Thursday

Meet at Cheively Services (M3/A34)

Ferry from Portsmouth to Caen

Drinks and cabin on the ferry.

Brittany Ferries probably offer the best accommodation across to France of all the companies.

Friday

Ride from Caen to Lamballe

Staying at Le Lion D'or, 3 Rue Du Lion D'or, 22400 Lamballe, France

It turns out this is a very good and well priced hotel with a very friendly proprietor who was most helpful. One of the party on the last full day had the misfortune to have a chain break.  Being a Weekend it was impossible to get anyone to recover the bike - with the help of Xavier (for that is his name) and his father they collected the bike and returned it to the hotel to attempt a repair.

Some snaps of the Market Square

As a point of interest an apparently very good food market takes place in this square every Thursday and draws people from a wide range.

Dinner here - great food and drink and reasonably priced.

We all enjoyed a lot of mussels, steak and red wine (although cidre is the  drink of the area and not wine). From my personal experience the cidre was excellent!

Saturday

Ride out from Lamballe

First stop for coffee

A great find for lunch - excellent sandwiches

And an ice cream and coffee at Carnac

Short video of some of the trip.

Sunday

Lamballe to Caen (via twisty and fast roads)

Ferry to Portsmout (at 1400)
