Using your Garmin Zumo and Sena SMH10 to make phone calls, listen to stereo music, get turn directions and make calls on a PMR radio all using bluetooth. (No Autocom needed and no wires as we are all Bluetooth)

Setting up the whole chain from headset to radio requires careful understanding of Bluetooth and potential interference to get the best connection possible.

My configuration

Steps to communication nirvana

1. Pair phone to Garmin.  Follow the instructions in the Garmin manual and the Phone manual. This is a straightforward pairing procedure.

2. Pair Sena to Garmin.  This allows

If GPS is not only used for turn-by-turn voice instructions but also is your preferred Bluetooth stereo music source, you can pair the GPS to the SMH10 by following the simple procedures in “6.1 Mobile Phone Pairing”. When you do this, the SMH10 thinks the GPS is a mobile phone. But the SMH10 can directly pair an additional mobile phone.

6.1 Mobile Phone Pairing

1. Turn on the SMH10 and press the Phone Button for 5 seconds until the LED flashes red and blue alternately and you hear multiple beeps. You will hear a voice prompt saying “Phone pairing”.

2. Search for Bluetooth devices on your mobile phone. Select the Sena SMH10 in the list of the devices detected on the mobile phone.

3. Enter 0000 for the PIN. Some mobile phones may not ask for the PIN.

4. The mobile phone confirms that pairing has completed and the

SMH10 is ready to use. You will hear a voice prompt from the

SMH10 saying “Your headset is paired”.

5. If the pairing process is not completed within three minutes, the

SMH10 will return to stand-by mode.

3. Pair Midland G8BT to Sena as another phone.  Now you can switch between all other functions and using the radio by simply touching the phone button on the Sena headset.  As the step above is pairing s a mobile phone and the Sena allows 2 mobile phones to pair, then it is possible to pair the G8BT to the Sena as an additional phone using the HFP profile (wich the Midland supports)
